Coventry City and Barnsley are interested in former Crewe Alexandra and Motherwell striker Michael Higdon, according to the Sunday People

The 30-year-old is currently playing for Dutch side N.E.C Nijmegen and enjoyed a productive season last term, scoring 14 goals in 32 games.

Coventry and Barnsley are said to be chasing former Motherwell striker Michael Higdon.

However, his current club were relegated from the Dutch top-flight and Higdon is thought to be available for transfer.

League One rivals Chesterfield are understood to be in talks with the striker but his wage demands were too high for the newly-promoted side.

Reports are now saying Coventry and Barnsley are considering making a move for Higdon, who won the 2012/13 Scotland PFA Players' Player of the Year award whilst with Motherwell.

Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley, who played alongside Higdon at Falkirk, is keen to add another striker to his squad.

The Liverpudlian started his career at Crewe, progressing through the club's youth academy to make his debut in December 2003, coming off the bench in a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

He made 96 appearances for the Railwaymen, scoring ten goals in four years at Gresty Road.

Higdon joined Falkirk on a free transfer in June 2007 and spent two years the The Bairns, scoring 17 goals in 72 appearances.

He then went on to St Mirren in June 2009 and after a poor first season with the Buddies, Higdon scored 15 goals in 33 appearances during the 2010/11 campaign which lead to a move to Motherwell at the end of that season.

Higdon continues his scoring form with 16 goals in 39 appearances at Fir Park during his first season and followed that up by scoring 27 goals in 43 games the season after which led him to winning the Scotland PFA Players' Player of the Year.

He joined N.E.C Nijmegen last summer signing a two-year deal.
