Sheffield Wednesday were made to rue their missed opportunities, as they were defeated 2-1 by Brighton and Hove Albion.

Two Anthony Knockaert goals, sandwiched either side of a Lewis Dunk own-goal, sent Brighton back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship.

Fernando Forestieri saw a penalty saved by David Stockdale, after Glenn Murray was dismissed for deliberate handball.

Knockaert made Wednesday pay with a goal five-minutes from time. Murray’s dismissal was the first of three red cards, as Owls players Steven Fletcher and Sam Hutchinson were also dismissed in the closing stages of the game.

The defeat sees the Owls remain sixth in the Sky Bet Championship, but they now trail second placed Newcastle United by ten-points.
