Brentford head coach Dean Smith has signed a new contract with the club, confirms the club’s official website.

The new deal sees Smith extend his current contract by one year, keeping him in west London until the end of the 2019 season.

At the same time, the Bees have also announced that Smith’s assistant manager, Richard O’Kelly, had earned a year extension on his contract too.

Smith was appointed Brentford manager in November 2015 and helped steer the club to a ninth-place finish in the Sky Bet Championship last season.

Phil Giles, Brentford’s co-director told the club’s official website: “It is great news for the Club that both Dean and Richard are fully committed for the long term.

“It's no secret that 2015 was an up and down year for Brentford, but their arrival helped us to bring some stability and allowed us to concentrate on building some solid foundations for the future.”

The Bees are currently sat 13th in the Championship table, knowing it will take an impressive run of results to break into the Play-Off positions, which they currently sit 12-points behind.

Smith suffered a blow during the January transfer window, with top goal scorer Scott Hogan joining Aston Villa.

However, Brentford’s reaction to Hogan’s departure has been excellent with the Bees picking up a victory against Villa and a point against high-flying Brighton and Hove Albion in their last league outings.

Next up for Smith’s side is a trip to Preston North End on Saturday.
