Everton would have to pay a sizeable fee to appoint West Brom boss Carlos Corberan as Frank Lampard's successor, a report from The Daily Star (25/01, p45) has claimed.

Corberan only joined West Brom back at the end of October, but he has already overseen a remarkable turnaround at The Hawthorns.

While the Baggies were 23rd in the Championship table when he arrived, they are now tenth in the second-tier standings, just one point adrift of the play-offs.

With that building on Corberan's unexpected run to the play-off final with Huddersfield last season, interest in the Spaniard is starting to grow.

It was recently reported that Everton are considering a move for the Baggies' head coach, as they look to replace Lampard, following his sacking on Monday.

Now however, it seems that a move for Corberan will not be cheap, with this latest update claiming that while he is a contender for the role, West Brom would demand "serious compensation" from Everton for the 39-year-old.

Corberan signed a two-and-a-half-year with West Brom when he joined the club, meaning his future at The Hawthorns is secure until the end of the 2024/25 season.

The Verdict

This will no doubt be a big relief for those of a West Brom persuasion.

Corberan has made a huge impact since his arrival at The Hawthorns, taking the club from relegation battlers to play-offs contenders in a matter of months, without making any changes to the playing squad.

His influence on this side is therefore clear to see, and it would make it a major blow if they were to lose him so early after his arrival at the club.

However, the size of the compensation needed to prise him away suggests it will not be easy for Everton or any other side to do so, which is promising for West Brom, especially considering that if he was to leave, it would at least give the club plenty to reinvest in terms of funds.
