As Charlton prepare for life in League One following a turbulent season under the controversial ownership of the Duchatelet family, the summer transfer window could be crucial for how Charlton Athletic will fare next season.

The first task for the South East London club is to replace Jose Riga who resigned after Charlton's final day defeat against Burnley, and there has been some difficulty in doing so.

Charlton initially were looking at Northampton Town's Chris Wilder and it appeared that Charlton were on the verge of securing the services of the talented manager.

However, the move fell through when there was uncertainty that Wilder would have ultimate control over transfers and how the club would be run.

With six managers in just two years, Wilder's call for stability should not go unnoticed even by Keith Hill and if Hill was to take the position at Charlton, he should take a similar approach to Wilder in demanding assurances before filling the vacancy.

The Lancastrian has impressed in League 1 considering that he was managing on a limited budget and helped to guide Rochdale to a 10th place finish and in theory with Charlton's more exhaustive resources, Hill could be a success for the Addicks.

The main issue is the disruptive ownership of Duchatelet and if Hill will be able to re-build Charlton on the field uninterrupted. If he can, it could be an astute appointment if not, it will be another tokenistic gesture.

Charlton fans, what do you make of the news? Would you like to see Keith Hill take up the vacancy at The Valley? Could he be a success or will he be undermined? Are there better options out there, if so, who? Let us hear your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
