Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of Tomer Hemed, with the attacker finally allowed to put pen-to-paper on a permanent deal with the Addicks.

Hemed’s deal has been in the pipeline for some time now, with Charlton finally confirming the arrival of the striker from Brighton and Hove Albion on a permanent contract.

That deal is 12 months long, with Hemed the 14th new addition to Lee Bowyer’s recently-promoted side.

The 32-year-old enjoyed a good spell at Brighton, scoring 30 league goals in 97 appearances, which included 11 goals in the 2016/17 campaign as the Seagulls secured a promotion to the Premier League.

As the south-coast outfit established themselves in the Premier League, Hemed’s influence lessened, with the attacker spending last season out on loan with Queens Park Rangers in the Championship.

In 27 appearances in West London, Hemed managed seven goals, with his initial impact at Loftus Road helping to ease the early season worry that’d built up around QPR.

Now, he’s back in London with Charlton, who have started the Championship season with seven points from a possible nine, with their unbeaten start extended at Barnsley on Saturday thanks to a late Lyle Taylor penalty.

The Verdict

Bowyer will be really pleased to get Hemed over the line and that he’s going to be introduced to training in the morning.

Hemed is an experienced striker who has led the line in the Championship before, giving him good experience of a tough division that the Addicks and their boss are new to.

Alongside Taylor, he could prove to be a valuable team player, with the pair having a mix of power, pace and goals.
