Birmingham City have had a decent start to the season with the emergence of several youngsters coming into the first-team another positive under Pep Clotet.

The Spaniard has given Jude Bellingham and Odin Bailey minutes in the early part of the campaign and they have both benefited.

Despite that, the club decided that some youngsters would improve by going out on loan for regular football, with midfielder Charlie Lakin one of those.

The 20-year-old featured in ten Championship games last season under Garry Monk but he was always going to find it tough to break into the XI, so a move to Stevenage in League Two seemed to suit all parties.

However, the youngster has been extremely unfortunate since making the move, with a thigh injury picked up following his debut, where the side picked up a creditable point at Mansfield, ruling him out for a relatively lengthy period.

Lakin still hasn't made it back and he has been missed, with the side second from bottom and they have just one win to their name in the league all season, although that was last time out.

Nevertheless, it's clear they are in a tough position so you would imagine that Lakin will be a welcome addition when he does return.

He will hope to get a good run of form going in the coming months to prove to key figures at Blues that he can have a future at St. Andrew's in the long-term. But for now, injury has made his spell in the lower leagues a very frustrating one.
