The 21-year-old has been out on loan twice previously with Peterborough United and Colchester United and now looks set to test his ability in the Championship for the first time.

McEvoy is yet to taste first-team football at White Hart Lane although it is thought that the club's coaching staff have high hopes for the Waterford-born player.

The midfielder boasts three caps for the Republic of Ireland Under-21's side and would offer Preston a boost as they look to climb out of the Championship relegation zone.

Spurs possess a fantastic youth setup and any player that is a product of the academy at the Premier League club is usually a decent acquisition.

McEvoy will no doubt hope to emulate his team-mate Alex Pritchard who was instrumental in Brentford reaching the Sky Bet Championship play-offs last season.

Simon Grayson's men currently sit in 23rd place in the Championship table, having accrued seven points from ten league games.
