The news will come as a blessing to most Blades fans, who will know that the Chesterfield-born Italian striker is definitely a player to watch over the coming seasons.

De Girolamo is set to sign a new three-year contract at Bramall Lane, having reportedly turned down offers from clubs including rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Scottish champions Celtic.

The Italian striker has been hot property in the past few months with clubs including Benfica, Juventus, Southampton and Sunderland all looking into the signing the forward.

The striker has represented Italy at all youth levels and has recently returned from a loan spell at Northampton Town, having previously spent a large part of the 2014-15 season on three consecutive loan spells with York City, scoring four goals in 12 appearances.

De Girolamo was set to leave the Blades this summer after revealing that his intent for first-team football at Bramall Lane was not being considered. After the sacking of Nigel Clough, Diego has since changed his mind over a move after promises of regular football from new manager Nigel Adkins.

The 19-year old forward, who can also play as a winger, is know for his quick feet and finishing ability and could be set for a big part in Sheffield United's promotion push next season.

Blades fans, are you happy to secure De Girolamo for another three years? Have your say in the comments below.
