Cardiff City must move players on before they can sign number one target Jonny Hayes, according to the Press and Journal.

Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock is keen to bring in Hayes, but has seen two bids rejected already, and with Cardiff having little or no funds to work with, he will have to offload some of his squad if he wants to capture Hayes.

Cardiff have some serious debt problems, and are keen to offload some of the club's top earners, with the likes of Bruno Manga and Rickie Lambert prime candidates to be released or sold this January.

The club are believed to have bid around £500k for Hayes, but this is not enough, with Aberdeen wanting closer to the £1m mark for their Irish star.

It is a frustrating time for Warnock at the minute in Wales, who is seemingly fighting a losing battle but continues to keep their heads above water, guiding them to 18th and six points clear of the relegation zone.

Cardiff recorded an impressive victory last time out with a 3-2 win away at Bristol City, and Warnock will be hoping to use some of that momentum to propel his side up the table.
