Cardiff City are looking to strengthen their squad in January with the addition of Hearts' promising young full-back, Callum Paterson, according to The Express.

Paterson is widely regarded as one of the best young Scottish talents around, which has made him much sought after south of the border, with several Championship clubs interested in acquiring his services.

Paterson's current deal at Tynecastle is up at the end of the season and if he leaves upon the expiration of his contract, Hearts will be due a training fee of around £500,000, small change for most Championship clubs and a steal for a player of his quality.

Paterson has really come to the fore of Scottish football in the last 12 months, producing so outstanding performances for club and country, which has clearly caught the eye of Cardiff.

With the Bluebirds embroiled in a relegation battle, Neil Warnock is desperate to add to his squad in January and Paterson could be on top of his list.
