Cardiff City attacker Lee Tomlin has sent a message to the fans after it was revealed he had suffered a serious knee injury.

According to Wales Online, Tomlin suffered the injury during a training exercise, pulling up following a 40 yard sprint in a practice match at The Vale.

The knock forced him to miss Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Stoke City and it is thought that the knock will be bad enough to see him miss more as well.

On Sunday, he took to Twitter to share a message regarding the blow, writing: Thank you for all the messages about the injury 💪🏻".

QUIZ: How much can you remember about Cardiff’s 2020 so far?

Tomlin has been an integral member of Cardiff's set-up this season, netting seven goals in 24 league matches and assisting seven more as well.

His presence was certainly missed on Saturday as Neil Harris' side took a blow in their push for a place in the play-offs, with a Joe Allen strike and a Callum Paterson own goal enough to condemn them to defeat.

It left them sat in tenth place with six points now between them and Preston North End, who currently occupy the final play-off spot, although they will have the chance to narrow the gap further on Tuesday night when they welcome Nottingham Forest to South Wales.

The verdict

This is really the worst injury news that Cardiff could have been given and it does sound like Tomlin will now miss a large chunk of the remaining season.

To put it bluntly, there is simply nobody else in the squad who can do what he does.

A change of shape will surely now be on the cards in order to try and limit the impact of his absence.
