Cardiff City Chairman Mehmet Dalman has stated that he expects a swift appointment of a new manager after Neil Warnock was relieved of his duties on Monday.

Warnock left the Bluebirds sitting in 14th in the Championship table after a rather inconsistent start to the season since their relegation from the Premier league.

They would have expected to do much better and be battling it out for a return to the top-flight, but instead there are fears the slide could continue after a lacklustre display on Sunday against rivals Bristol City.

Although Cardiff have only lost three games out of their last 13, there have been too many draws and a lot of the performances have been very lacklustre with no pace or penetration to the play.

Dalman has expressed that the process is now underway for a new manager, and it could be wrapped up imminently.

Speaking to BBC Radio Wales, Dalman said: "The process is going on at the moment and we’re down to a very small number of names now.

“I’d be very surprised if we don’t announce something in the next 72 hours, certainly by the weekend.”

The Verdict

It is a really big decision deciding to sack Warnock, because if anyone could have turned a corner for Cardiff it would have been that man. He's been an impressive manager over his career, but sometimes clubs can get in a rut and it becomes impossible to get out of it.

Supporters seemed to be bored of the type of football they were playing, especially seeing as they weren't getting results and the defending had been much worse than in previous seasons.

If they can get someone in quick, that'll set up the Bluebirds well for the international break as the have a bit more time to work on a few things.
