Dean Holden is in pole position to become the new manager of Bristol City, according to reports from Football Insider.

The Robins are on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Lee Johnson towards the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Johnson was sacked following a 1-0 defeat to Cardiff last month, after the club saw their play-off hopes diminish under the 39-year-old, and they will now be looking to make an appointment ahead of next season.

The likes of Chris Hughton, Paul Cook and Dean Holden have been linked with the vacant role, with Hughton even believed to have agreed to take over at Ashton Gate.

Bristol Live have recently reported that Holden is being seriously considered by the board, though, and has reportedly been interviewed by the club as they look to appoint a new head coach.

Now, Football Insider claim that Holden is in pole position to become City's new boss, after taking temporary charge of the Robins following Johnson's exit.

Holden, 40, guided Bristol City to back-to-back wins following Johnson's departure, before the Robins drew with Stoke and Preston and lost to Swansea City.

The Verdict

I don't think that this is the right appointment for Bristol City.

Holden has been Johnson's assistant for a lengthy amount of time now, but I do not believe that he has the experience to guide City into the Premier League.

I feel that they need a tried and tested manager like Hughton who has experience of winning promotion on his CV, and I don't think City fans will be too happy with this appointment.
