Leeds United have been one of the surprise packages of this season's Championship campaign, and Garry Monk has continued to lead his side up the table this campaign.

As things currently stand, the Whites sit third in the table and promotion from the second-division hasn't looked so assured in years.

Monk has built a thorough squad that seems to want to play together and it's paying dividence.

But one story that has really sent shockwaves through the Elland Road terraces this week has been the rumours linking former favourite Fabian Delph with a move back to Yorkshire.

The Manchester City man has been used sparingly since making the move to the Etihad and a variety of sources believe that a return to Elland Road could be on the cards for the England international.

And here at the FLW, we think that would be an absolutely fantastic move for Monk and his side - here's 3 reasons why...

The fans would welcome him home

A quick Twitter search of "Delph Leeds United" confirms that most Leeds fans would welcome home the central-midfielder in a heartbeat if the opportunity ever came about.

The England man is a quality pro and had he not made the move to Manchester City, he might still be in the three lions ranks now.

But he chose the money and has been out of the side for over two years now and things need to change very soon for him and a return back to Elland Road could be a real starting block once again.

At this level, he's deadly

We saw Delph shine during Leeds' League One campaign in the 2008-2009 season and it only goes to show as a marker as to how good he is at this level.

Of course, it's his Premier League experience with Aston Villa that has made him the player he is today but back in the day for Leeds, he was frighteningly good.

Leeds fans would love to see him pull on that white jersey once again.

His time at City is over

Pellegrini has left and with Pep Guardiola at the helm, the chance of game-time for Fabian Delph is disappearing quicker and quicker every week.

He's just not the sort of player the Spaniard needs to play in his system, and that should be a very tell-tale sign to move on this January.

A move from the Whites would certainly be ambitious ,but there is no better time to make an approach for the former England man so Leeds should cut their losses and give it a try.
