According to the London Evening Standard, Chelsea are set to sanction a loan deal for young midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek this month.

Premier League side West Ham United and Championship league leaders Brighton and Hove Albion are set to compete to land Loftus-Cheek in January.

Newcastle have previously expressed an interest in his loan services as well as Birmingham, who might look to use Gianfranco Zola’s links to Chelsea.

The England under-21 international is regarded as one of Chelsea’s most promising young players but has started just twice for the Premier League leaders this season, with both of those games coming in the EFL Cup.

He has only managed one substitute cameo in the league for Chelsea, compared with his 17 outings last season.

The 20-year-old plays as an attack-minded central midfielder, who likes to carry the ball forward.

West Ham want him at the London Stadium but Chelsea could be tempted to give him to Brighton instead as he has more chance of regular playing time.
