Brentford have swooped on Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers to complete a move for goalkeeper David Raya.

Confirmed by the club's official website this morning, the Bees have agreed a four-year deal with the 23-year-old, who will move to Griffin Park as a direct replacement for Daniel Bentley, who moved to Bristol City earlier in the window.

Bees manager Thomas Frank has moved quickly to replace Bentley, opting for Rovers stopper Raya as his key target after seeing him impress at Ewood Park in the last few seasons under Tony Mowbray.

Raya cemented himself as the number on at Ewood Park in the club's promotion season from League One, and continued his fine form into the Championship last year as Rovers comfortably sealed a mid-table finish in the second tier.

The fee for Raya has been marked as undisclosed, but there is little doubt that Brentford will have paid a small chunk of change for the goalkeeper, who will now join up with the rest of the squad on their pre-season tour of Austria.

The Spaniard moved to England following a spell with UE Cornella over in his homeland, before a move to Southport on loan saw him catch the eye of Rovers' coaching staff. He grabbed his opportunity with both hands last term and has now been rewarded with a move to Griffin Park.

The Verdict

Solid and shrewd piece of business from Brentford here, who are always quick in the market it seems.

They are known as a bit of a selling club, so it's nice for once to see the Bees go out and raid one of their rivals for a player.

Raya should be fine in the sticks under Thomas Frank. He proved himself last season and should only go on to get better you would assume. At 23, he has time on his side and should no doubt have a very successful career ahead of him.
