Blackpool boss Neil McDonald is being linked with a potential reunion with Sam Allardyce following his appointment as the new Sunderland manager, according to the Blackpool Gazette.

Allardyce replaced outgoing Dick Advocaat at Sunderland, and is rumoured to be considering offering McDonald a role as part of his backroom staff at the Stadium of Light.

Having been an assistant for many years to Allardyce at Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Blackpool and, most recently, West Ham United, McDonald was eager to become a manager in his own right, and took the opportunity of the number one role at struggling Blackpool.

Yet, the lure of working alongside long-time friend Allardyce in the Premier League may see the 49-year-old depart Bloomfield Road.

Blackpool fans will be hoping McDonald chooses to stay with the League One side, having seen their side record three successive victories under the new manager.

The Tangerines current form will need to continue if they are to reach safety however; Blackpool are still in the relegation places on goal difference.

Fans will be disappointed that their momentum cannot be continued in today's fixture at Bradford City, as the match has been postponed due to international call-ups.

Only time will tell as to whether McDonald reunites with Allardyce at Sunderland, but Blackpool's recent upturn in form could throw doubt into the 49-year-old's mind.
