The 21-year-old, formerly of Premier League giants Manchester United, is currently on loan from top-flight outfit Leicester City, and Bowyer has conceded that his level of performance at Ewood Park may well convince his parent club that the young forward can perform at the top level.

This could lead to a recall back to the King Power Stadium when his loan deal expires in January, which could be a big loss to Bowyer's Rovers side.

Lawrence's performances have been a major boost to Blackburn, but the club still find themselves in 15th after picking up just two wins in their opening ten games.

Bowyer told the Lancashire Telegraph: 'Obviously we would love to have him for the whole season if we can.

'But he’s a Leicester player and we have to be respectful to Leicester and how they see him. But given the level of performances he’s producing for us at the moment, the downside of it is that they could recall him and put him in and around their first team.

'That is why they wanted to send him out on loan and get games. We understand that; that’s part of the process.'

Bowyer is nonetheless eager to keep hold of the striker if he can, after another excellent performance from the 21-year-old helped his side to a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town last time out. Following a fabulous display, Bowyer commented that his tireless performances reminded him of another current Leicester City striker, Jamie Vardy.

'If you look at what Vardy did against us when they were in the Championship, and what he still does now, Tom’s performance reminded me of him.

'Vardy never stops, he gives defenders a terrible time, and that was what we saw from Tom on Saturday. We were really impressed with that side of his game.

'He’s got the ability to score a goal, like we saw against Charlton, and what also impressed me on Saturday was the way he dropped into midfield and helped out and played as a normal centre-midfielder.'

Bowyer's side will hope to start climbing the table by picking up some wins, starting with MK Dons after the international break.
