Sky Bet Championship side Blackburn Rovers are close to having their transfer embargo, inflicted by Financial Fair Play, lifted following recent player exits, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

The Rovers, along with Leeds United and Nottingham Forest were slapped with a transfer embargo each, after breaching financial fair play rules, after making a loss of over £8 million during the 2013/2013 season.

It meant that during last January and over this summer, they've only been able to sign free agents and bring in loanees with wages under £10,000 a week.

Leeds were the first of the three to have their transfer embargo lifted, but Blackburn look next in line, after the £6 million exit of Rudy Gestede to Aston Villa, and Jake Kean's move to Norwich City.

Rovers managing director Derek Shaw told the Lancashire Telegraph: “We’re still under an embargo but we’re getting nearer and nearer to the point where we will be trading within the rules and we’ll come out of the embargo.”

Gary Bowyer seems very confident of beating the embargo, as FLW have been informed by a club insider at Rovers, that the club are leading the race for Cardiff City striker Adam Le Fondre, whom they'd have to amass a fee for.

This news will come as a huge relief for Rovers fans, and if they can spend wisely on the right players, they should have a far better season than if they were still disallowed from signing players.
