Craig Gardner’s move to Birmingham City looks to be very close to completion, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Blues’ manager Gianfranco Zola revealed that both the club and the player were keen on finalising the deal, and it now looks as though both parties have got their wish.

The current West Bromwich Albion midfielder is due to have a medical in Birmingham this afternoon and if all goes well, he could be a Blue by the end of the day.

They are believed to be working a loan deal for their former player with the option of bringing him back on a permanent basis once summer comes along.

Gardner, who operates in the centre of midfield, would be welcomed back by the St. Andrews crowd who saw the 30-year-old appear over 50 times fit their club.

It could be a signing that helps the fans warm to their new manager who has struggled since taking the reigns from Gary Rowett.
