The Shields Gazette have reported that Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has refused to discuss speculation linking him with the Arsenal job.

Benitez had been linked with the manager's job at Arsenal after Arsene Wenger's position has come under threat following a poor couple of months which has seen them slip out of the running for the Premier League title, it's also been speculated that the Frenchman could step down at the end of 2016/17.

It's reported that there is a four-man shortlist of managers that the Gunners want to be Wenger's replacement, and the Spaniard is reportedly on that list.

“I’m the manager for playing against Norwich and then the next games'', said the 56-year-old.

“That’s it, so I’m just focused on that.”

“As a manager you are used to have of clubs talking and the media talking so what you have to do is just concentrate on your job.”

Since taking over at St James. Park last season, Benitez spent big on players in the summer, bringing in the likes of Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie. The Toon Army are currently top of the Championship, 7 points clear of 3rd place, winning 21 of their 30 matches played.

Despite failing to keep Newcastle United in the Premier League last season, Benitez's side are looking like very strong automatic promotion contenders this year as they march towards a quick return to the top flight.
