Keller who left his most recent job as FC Ingolstadt in April has so far taken charge of four sides since his managerial career began back in 2010. Despite being sacked at both Schalke and Union Berlin, Keller enjoyed respectable win percentages at the two clubs, with 46.75% and 50% respectively. In placing Keller on their shortlist Barnsley show they could be interested in following a similar appointment to the one of Daniel Stendel back in June 2018. Like Keller, Stendel achieved a respectable win rate in Germany, this time at Hannover 96 where he achieved a 50% win percentage over his 34 games with the club. Stendel won the hearts of many Barnsley fans after guiding them to automatic promotion the Championship in the 2018-2019 season, and the Reds' faithful even held a "leaving party" for the German after his sacking. Keller could have a similar impact on the Reds, just like Stendel did. He will bring a similar German flair to the side, and shouldn't look to much into changing the club's style of play, one which Stendel persisted with. He is used to managing the smaller teams in a division, evident with his spells at Union Berlin and FC Ingolstadt, and if he endears himself with the Reds' fans, it could see him steer the club away from relegation. Barnsley fans would welcome the consistency shown by the board if they were to opt with Keller, it would be hard to imagine them grumbling should Keller get Barnsley back to playing the football that saw them promoted last term. Supporters will be hoping that the sacking of Stendel is justifiable through the new man steering the side to safety, if the club were ultimately relegated some may question the board's apparent knee-jerk decision when it came to Stendel's future. Whichever way the Barnsley board decide to look, Reds fans will be hoping an appointment is made soon so the club can move forward with the stability to help them move away from the Championship drop zone.
