Sky Bet Championship newcomers Aston Villa are keen on securing the signing of Norwich City midfielder Graham Dorrans this summer, as Roberto Di Matteo begins to assess his squad.

According to the Express and Star the Scotland international is one of the new Villa boss’ top summer targets having worked with the central midfielder during his time at West Bromwich Albion.

The 29-year-0ld struggled to hold down a regular starting berth during last season at Carrow Road and the Canaries could look to move him along during the transfer window, with Villa a seemingly realistic option for Dorrans.

The Scotsman enjoyed his best season as a professional working under Di Matteo at the Hawthorns, netting 18 goals from midfield during the Baggies’ promotion season of 2009/10

Aston Villa were embarrassing at times during their Premier League campaign last season and Champions League winning boss Di Matteo will have a huge task in trying to revive the club’s fortunes during the 2016/17 campaign.
