According to HITC Sport, Brighton and Hove Albion have rejected a bid from Aston Villa for key midfielder Dale Stephens.

Dale Stephens is out of contract in the summer so Aston Villa are trying to snap him up on a cut-price deal.

The 27-year-old is an integral part of Brighton’s successful midfield as he keeps things ticking over with tidy and composed displays in the middle of the park.

Stephens, who harbours ambitions of playing Premier League football, has previously turned down a new deal at Brighton and explained to fans via Twitter that he had handed in a transfer request amid interest from Burnley.

But Brighton have stood firm and continue to block his way out of the AMEX as they aim to keep their star players for this season’s promotion push.

The league leaders have apparently rejected a bid in the region of £4m from Aston Villa as they expect to persuade Stephens to sign a new deal if they get promoted.

Brighton fans – can you keep Stephens this January? Will he sign a new deal? How much would you sell him for?

Aston Villa fans – would you like Stephens at your club? Can you land him this January? How much are you willing to spend on him?
