Birmingham City will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Sky Bet Championship tonight, as Pep Clotet's side prepare to travel to the DW Stadium to face Wigan Athletic.

Blues' inconsistent start to the season continued at the weekend, with Derby County winning 3-2 at Pride Park to claim only their second league win of the season.

The Rams went ahead after two minutes through Chris Martin, and then doubled their lead in the second-half through Martyn Waghorn.

But out of nowhere, Blues got themselves back into the game - Ivan Sunjic and Gary Gardner scoring in quick succession to level the scores, before Lukas Jutkiewicz missed from the penalty spot.

Jamie Paterson then made the big striker pay for his error, scoring in the 74th minute to condemn Clotet's men to their fourth defeat of the campaign.

Blues will be now hungry to get back to winning ways tonight after a disappointing afternoon in the East Midlands, but Alvaro Gimenez is in high spirits ahead of the trip to Lancashire.

After the defeat to Derby, he has now took to Twitter to post a passionate message to fans, insisting that he and his teammates will come back stronger.

The 28-year-old forward will also be looking to get back amongst the goals tonight, having scored just one goal in seven games for Birmingham since arriving from Almeria in the summer.

The Verdict

It was a disappointing afternoon for Birmingham on Saturday - they had the chance to complete a remarkable turnaround, but were unable to capitalise.

After two defeats on the spin, it is hugely important that they get back to winning ways tonight against a struggling team in Wigan.

Gimenez could be crucial in the win, and he should look to use his size and physical prowess to full effect.
