Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to miss out on the signing of Crystal Palace's Dwight Gayle, with Bournemouth in pole position to secure the striker's signature, FLW understands.

Gayle looks set to join Fulham
Gayle is a target for both Bournemouth and Wolves

Gayle joined the Eagles from Peterborough two years ago for a club record £6m fee and has gone on to score 20 goals in 48 appearances for the South London club.

However, he has appeared to become frozen out of the first team at Selhurst Park since the arrival of Alan Pardew, and made only 19 starts last term.

Wolves had been interested in the former Arsenal trainee as they look to secure promotion from the Championship next season, with manager Kenny Jackett keen to bolster his attacking options following the departure of Kevin Doyle, Leon Clarke and Jake Cassidy.

However, Palace are keen to recoup the money that they paid for Gayle in 2013 and Wolves are said to be unwilling to pay so much for a striker, with a loan move the preferred option for the West Midlands outfit.

This has alerted Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe, who is in the process of strengthening his squad ahead of their debut season in the top flight.

FLW has learnt that Dean Court is the preferred destination for Gayle, who is unwilling to drop into the Championship, and the Cherries are more likely to meet the 25-year-old's £20,000-per-week wage demands.

Howe is keen to place his trust in English players to keep in his side the Premier League, and he sees Gayle as the perfect addition to partner Callum Wilson, who scored 20 league goals last season.
