Reading have enjoyed a good start to the season and their 2-1 victory over struggling Bolton at the weekend, has left them just a point outside the playoffs.

The recent saga involving manager Steve Clarke going to Fulham but then it falling apart at the last second has threatened to destabilise their play-off push, and poison his relationship with the fans.

But Clarke will hope to win back the trust of the fans as the season progresses by stringing some good results together.

Reading made some clever acquisitions in the summer including Matej Vydra who may be yet to fill his boots, but has proved in his time at Watford that he is an accomplished Championship striker.

Reading don't have the strongest squad in the Championship and can perhaps only envy the wealth of talent possessed by the top teams in the Championship such as Hull and Middlesbrough.

But their 2-0 win over Middlesbrough earlier on in the season proved they can mix it with the big boys, but some recent inconsistency suggests a bit of strengthening may be needed.

With the January transfer window approaching it would be a key moment in their season and a great chance to strengthen for the run in.

Here are FIVE realistic signings Royals fans would be happy with.....

Alex Iwobi

The young Arsenal forward is one of the hottest prospects at the club, and at the age of 19, he has already made first-team appearances for Arsenal and Nigeria, as well as representing England at youth level. ]

Held in high regard by the Arsenal fans, he is mainly playing for the youth team with the odd cameo in the cup for the youngster, and Wenger may feel he has developed enough to give him a bigger challenge of first-team Championship football.

Reading could do with adding to there attacking ranks and Iwobi is a cheap alternative to any big money striker, and would be a deal all parties would be happy with.

James Wilson

The young Manchester United starlet is another realistic loan target for Reading in the winter, and is a player many Championship clubs will surely be after.

He has experience with the United first team and has league and cup appearances under his belt, but has failed to impress in these games and now young Anthony Martial has overtaken him in the pecking order, Van Gaal may be more open to letting him go.

He has appearances and goals for England at youth level, and will definitely be one of the most sought after targets in January, and Reading will most probably be one of those suitors.

Tokelo Rantie

Rantie is a transfer target for Russell Slade's Cardiff City

The Bournemouth striker was signed by the club for a club record fee but found himself playing third fiddle to Callum Wilson and Yann Kermorgant, and played little part in Bournemouth's promotion push.

Rantie is a striker who came with a good reputation and is an able goalscorer, and this transfer would be a good one for Reading on a permanent deal or a loan move, as he is clearly not required by Bournemouth anymore.

Gyasi Zardes

The LA Galaxy frontman is player that would undoubtedly excite Royals fans.

The American striker has pace, strength and is lethal in front of goal, and he has all the requirements to become an excelling striker in England.

Steve Clarke undoubtedly needs to add to his attacking options in January, and a move for the 24-year-old striker could potentially make them serious candidates for promotion to the Premier League.

Lewis Grabban

The Norwich striker has found himself massively out of favour since his move there from Bournemouth, and now that they are in the Premier League, he has found his opportunities even more limited.

He has been linked with a permanent move to many Championship clubs, but is seemingly reluctant to leave.

His future evidently does not lie at Norwich, and Reading would be surely be keen on taking him away, as he is a proven Championship goalscorer.
