Sheffield United are a side who are severely underachieving this season.

They sit in 11th place in League One and will need to pick up some points soon, if they want to continue their consistency of being in the top six at the end of the campaign.

The Blades were rated as promotion favourites before a ball was kicked in August. They seem a long way from achieving that goal as they are 11 points behind leaders Coventry.

Nigel Adkins has a proven record at this level in the Football League as he has been promoted three times. Twice with Scunthorpe United and Southampton.

The Blades will be desperate that their fifth season in the third tier of football will be their final one as they have been consistently fallen at the last hurdle at the crucial end of the season.

Their recent dip of form is increasing the anxiety of the Blade’s fans and they will want to see some exciting players walking through the dressing room doors in January.

Alex Iwobi

Many Football League clubs have stepped up their interest in the Arsenal forward and one of them should be Sheffield United.

He could provide an excellent strike partner for Sheffield United talisman, Billy Sharp.

Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger would surely be open to loan out the 19-year-old Nigerian starlet and Nigel Adkins has the managerial ability to bring the best out of Iwobi.

Josh Windass

The son of Hull Legend; Dean, has enjoyed a successful campaign for Accrington Stanley this season.

Windass has been subject to transfer interest this month and has attracted the likes of Arsenal, who have sent scouts out to watch the midfielder.

It would be unlikely that Windass would start in their world-class midfield set up, and it would be more beneficial for him to sign for a club, like the Blades.

Sam Morsy

The Chesterfield captain is a key player at the club.

He has scored three goals in 20 appearances at the club and has three assists, and the holding midfielder has the ability to go from box to box and link defence to attack quickly.

He captained Chesterfield to the League One play-offs in 2014/15, and was very influential for the club.

Chesterfield currently sit in 14th place in League One and a sufficient bid from Sheffield United could see him make the step up at Bramall Lane, who arguably have a more realistic chance of getting out of the division than Chesterfield do.

George Moncur

The Colchester United midfielder was named the PFA fans’ Player of the Month in August and September this season.

He has really caught the eye from some of his performances for the Essex side.

Moncur has scored seven goals in 20 appearances for the club this season, and has been very impressive.

The 24 year old was brought up through the West Ham academy - he is bright, creative player who could be a fan favourite at Sheffield United.

Conor Hourihane

Despite Barnsley struggling in the bottom echelons of the League, Hourihane has been a big asset for them this season.

Sheffield United should take advantage of the midfielder’s performances, who has netted four times in 15 appearances for Barnsley this season.

He has continued to impress at Oakwell, since being brought in from Plymouth in their last campaign.
