Cardiff City suffered their first home defeat under Neil Harris on Tuesday night as they were conquered by a promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest side in the Welsh capital.

The Bluebirds entered the match hoping to get their play-off bid back on track following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Stoke over the weekend, but Tiago Silva's second-half effort proved to be the decisive blow as Forest sealed three points on the road.

The result means Harris' men are now sitting six points adrift of the play-offs with 11 games remaining this term, with the defeat to Forest having seen the Bluebirds squander a major opportunity to make ground following Bristol City and Preston's losses.

Therefore, it was an overall disappointing night for the Bluebirds at the Cardiff City Stadium, but there were some positives including the return of Joe Ralls from injury, while his fellow midfielder Will Vaulks continued his fine form in central midfield.

Vaulks has now established himself in the centre of the park for Cardiff after struggling to break into the side for much of the campaign, and his passing ability means has now become a key figure heading into the final run-in this campaign.

Here, we take a closer look at Vaulks' numbers from the match...

Vaulks has played every minute of league action for the Bluebirds since their 2-1 victory over West Brom back in January, and the Wales international played the full 90 minutes for the seventh straight league match as Cardiff suffered defeat last night.

The 26-year-old excels as a result of his hard-working attitude in the centre of the park, but he also strived to offer a goalscoring threat for his side on Tuesday night as he registered three shots on goal as Cardiff sought a breakthrough against Forest.

There is a creative void in this Cardiff side without the services of the injured Lee Tomlin and Vaulks attempted to step up in the 31-year-old's absence on Tuesday night, with the midfielder making five key passes as he attempted to unlock the Reds' defence.

Vaulks also registered a solid 71.9% passing accuracy as he kept things ticking over in the middle of the park, and while this figure is not as high as recent weeks, the fact he recorded a total of 85 touches shows how much of the Bluebirds' play went through him.

The former Rotherham man also looked switch play on numerous occasions for Cardiff as he produced a total of 19 long balls throughout the match, but Vaulks' attempts ultimately proved futile as he failed to help his side avoid defeat to the Reds.
