Barnsley are on the rise, a club in Yorkshire who really are made for the Championship.

The level of talent recruited (Vaz Te, Drinkwater) and produced by The Tykes typifies the Yorkshire region as being the best in the UK. John Stones being the latest, Mason Holgate being the next.

The Tykes are having a strong end to the season and have creeped into the top six, and are punters favourites to successfully condemn the other sides around them in the play-offs.

After wins against some of the strongest sides in the division, Football League World writer Conor McGilligan takes a look at some of the more promising Barnsley talents who would fit perfectly in a Championship side such as Leeds United.....

Marc Roberts

Steely, determined and personifying a never give up attitude.

Left out of the Tykes side for months after lacklustre uninspiring performances, the fairytale ending would be enhanced by promotion as Roberts fought his way back into squad and continued to marshall the Tykes to an impressive 9 clean sheets in 11, as they continue their brief spell outside the second tier.

Leeds United have issues at the back, Sol Bamba one name you would immediately name on the teamsheet, however any more? I wouldn't say so.

With irrational Italians Berardi and Bellusci in particular commanding the rearguard, a calming, passionate leader in Roberts could lead United to a succession of clean sheets, which can be as good as scoring a goal in the Championship, as the Reds have proved with their impressive League One goal difference tally leading into the play-offs.

Conor Hourihane

Conor Hourihane

A man who I have thought for years is playing way below his stations.

Rumours amidst of possible transfers to higher Championship clubs and even West Ham scouting the Irishman for a period a couple of seasons ago.

The man rarely scores simple goals, his tally for The Tykes is summed up by 'wondergoal'.

His assists are comparable to Ozil on the League One level, his set piece delivery is essential for the reds as penalties and free kicks are a constant threat when enforced by Hourihane.

Not only does he have assists to his name but the outrageously technically gifted Hourihane also has recently added goals to his game and with a Leeds side that lacks any sort of creativity what so ever, Hourihane could be the perfect match.

Sam Winnall

Winnall is an out an out goalscorer.

Many have compared him to the likes of Jordan Rhodes, not a scorer of belters but a sniffer, a converter of simple chances, something which is a necessity in the Championship.

His goals have seen the Tykes rise up the division and also the interest has risen.

Cellino has never denied making an approach for Winnall and with the constant injuries notching up for Chris Wood and the lack of firepower up top for the Whites, Winnall could be the perfect, cheap addition.

Adam Hammill

DONE IT BEFORE.

The winger was on the Liverpool academy books at the start of his career and it isn't difficult to see why.

His talent is way beyond the League One and has sent Barnsley onto another level.

His creativity, trickery and dribbling on the wing has full backs in knots and is the perfect concoction with players like Fletcher and Winnall waiting to pounce.

The dynamic of the Barnsley squad is completed with Hammill. Hourihane the playmaker, Winnall the goalscorer and Roberts marshalling the backline, the spine is infectious and blooming good for a League One outfit.

Hammill has done it before at Huddersfield and was unlucky to be let go, his performances for the Tykes have ensured him as the starting winger, and one of the best.

Leeds have issues out wide, Antenucci is usually pushed out wide as Botaka isn't favoured.

Hammill is direct , unpredictable and his movement baffles defences.

His level once again is above this league, if Barnsley don't seal the lucrative Championship deal it's inevitable the scouser will be moving on.

Ashley Fletcher

Controversial as he isn't technically a Barnsley player, but even so, what an impact. The super sub has been essential for Barnsley's late wins.

The Manchester United academy has produced some quick strikers in the last season emphasized by Wilson, Rashford and now Fletcher.

His attributes are ridiculously similar to that of Rashford and the two have played together frequently, as they were in the same squad to win the Youth leagues in previous years.

Very direct clinical at finishing, Fletcher may not be a permanent move for The Whites but could definitely be a short term, effective and worthy transfer.
