The Tykes have bolstered their side significantly over the summer to make sure they are not overwhelmed by some of the talented sides that the Sky Bet Championship has to offer.

Sessi D’Almeida, Ryan Kent, Tom Bradshaw, George Moncur, Elliot Lee, Adam Hammill, Andy Yiadom and Stefan Payne have all made switches to Oakwell so far.

The club have under a week to add more players to their squad, and Tykes boss Paul Heckingbottom will certainly not be finished with his transfer business just yet.

Barnsley have had a good start to the season after picking up six points in their opening four games, winning and losing twice.

The Championship is one of the most competitive and unpredictable leagues in the world, and they certainly have a squad capable of pushing towards a potential push for a play-off spot.

However, they will need to add some players before the transfer deadline to improve their squad depth.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Ashley Williams identifies FOUR players Barnsley should sign before August 31st...

Rico Henry

Henry

The talented left-back is known to be interesting a host of clubs in the Premier League and Championship following his starring displays for the Saddlers last year.

Henry also received his first call-up to the England Under-21’s in November last year, and could test himself in the tough nature of the Championship.

Henry is a talented prospect for Barnsley, who would certainly improve their defence and provide a genuine threat going forward from full-back.

Aaron Pierre

The 23-year-old has been a stand-out performer for Wycombe Wanderers during the last two league campaigns, attracting interest from a host of sides this summer.

Pierre showed that he could also hold his own against Aston Villa in the FA Cup last season, and would be an excellent prospect for Barnsley.

The central defender is extremely strong and organises his back-four extremely well.

He is a player I feel would be able to cope with the rough and tumble of the Championship.

Gboly Ariyibi

Barnsley are chasing the highly-rated Chesterfield winger, as the 21-year old’s contract runs out in the summer and he seems unwilling to discuss a contract extension.

The Tykes have had several bids turned down already from the League One club.

Chesterfield are aiming to get around £3 million for Ariyibi’s services, but the Reds should certainly consider another offer for the young and quick winger.

Lloyd Isgrove

The midfielder admitted in the summer that he wanted a move to Barnsley after helping the Tykes earn promotion to the Championship, but a deal has not yet materialised.

Isgrove is searching for regular first team football, and Heckingbottom should offer him an escape route back to Oakwell.

Isgrove has always been regarded as a very talented young player by Southampton but, after breaking into the Saints’ first team as a teenager a couple of seasons ago, the midfielder has not quite been able to fulfil his immense promise.

With new signing Sessi D’Almeida ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate knee ligament playing for the Under-23 team, Isgrove could be the ideal replacement.
