Brentford had a disappointing campaign last season failing to build on the success of the previous one under Mark Warburton.

After Matthew Benham made the strange decision to get rid of Warburton, he also sold a lot of Brentford's key players with Gray and Tarkowski moving to Burnley in big money moves.

Losing other important squad players like Toumani Diagouraga, Stuart Dallas and Jonathan Douglas was also a blow and Brentford under Marinus Dikkhuizen did some poor business.

They were dreadful at the start of the season and Dijkhuizen was sacked, Lee Carsley stabilised their form and Walsall manager Dean Smith came in to take charge.

The start was terrible with Brentford teetering above the relegation zone, but after winning 7 of their final 9 games they ended up finishing 9th.

Alan Judge carried them through, scoring 14 goals which was joint top with Lasse Vibe who hit some form towards the end of the season.

Here are FOUR key players for Brentford next season.......

Lasse Vibe

When Brentford sold Andre Gray to Burnley for £8 million a lot of Brentford fans wondered if they would be able to replace him.

Brentford reinvested the money in a series of strikers with Vibe arriving along with Philip Hoffman and Marco Djuricin.

Vibe arrived with a brilliant record at Swedish side Goteborg where the Dane scored 31 goals in 56 games.

Under Dijkhuizen he was started as a winger which he struggled as and Carsley played him as a lone striker.

This suited him under Dean Smith as well and he hit form towards the end of the season with 7 goals in 7 games, tying Alan Judge for top scorer with 14 goals.

Brentford will need to add further depth in the strikers department but Vibe looks like someone they can persist with.

Scott Hogan

The leg break suffered by Alan Judge will lead most to believe they will struggle next season, as without him Brentford might have gone down this season.

A player they missed all season until the very end was 24-year-old Scott Hogan who suffered cruciate ligament damage in pre-season.

He returned towards the end of the season, scoring 7 in 7 turning their form around, winning Player of the Month.

He must play the role Judge did last season and get to the kind of level he was at with Rochdale, when he scored 17 goals in 1 season.

If he stays fit he could be there main goalscorer.

Josh McEachran

23-year-old midfielder Josh McEachran is a massive player for Brentford but was injured for most of this season.

He got plenty of experience out on loan at Chelsea playing regular football for Middlesbrough and Watford.

Part of the England youth setup he fractured his foot after a good start to the season and he never truly recovered this season, but fans will hope to see him in full swing this season.

He has been compared to Essien and Modric for his excellent vision and passing range, and has the potential to be the best midfielder in the league.

Yoann Barbet

The 23-year-old centre back has eventually made quite the impression at Griffin Park this season, due to a bad transfer policy.

He was behind Harlee Dean and James Tarkowski but after Tarkowski was sold to Burnley, Barbet had usurped O'Connell as third choice and he became a regular at the back alongside Dean.
