Sheffield United are midway through their latest pre-season campaign as they look to finally win promotion at what would be a sixth attempt under yet another new manager in Chris Wilder.

Wilder has begun reshaping his squad, making additions such as Mark Duffy and John Fleck to the squad, and moving out 10 players who were out of contract and transfer listing seven more.

It is unclear as yet if Wilder will go with a 4-2-3-1 formation or whether he will go with the rejuvenated 4-4-2 formation we have seen make a comeback in the last few seasons.

Wilder has brought in players really who can complement both formations, and it will be interesting to see just how he sets his stall out on the opening day of the season against Bolton Wanderers.

With this in mind, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at how the Blades could romp to victory at the Macron Stadium, as he selects his Blades XI in a 4-4-2 formation...

GK - George Long

George Long

The young goalkeeper should be raring to go now that his mind is focussed following his decision to sign a new contract at the end of last season.

Long has the raw talent to be a top goalkeeper and should build on his already 5 seasons of experience to make the number one jersey his own.

There a few things Long needs to work on over the summer, but if he can begin to iron out those little flaws, then he should be a nailed on starter for years to come at Bramall Lane.

RB - John Brayford

The marauding full back was desperately unlucky for the main part of last season as he overcame a near career ending injury, only to suffer a series of niggles when he returned.

A full pre-season under his belt should serve him well, and Blades fans will be dying to see Brayford get back to the form he showed in his first loan spell 2-years ago.

If Brayford can rediscover that form, then the Blades will have the best right back in the division at their disposal.

CB - Jack O'Connell

The new signing from Brentford really should be a shoo in to start on the opening day, and he will be hoping he can nail down a regular spot in the centre of defence.

O'Connell will be looking to get his career on the move following a stop start spell with the Bees, while Blades fans will be hoping he can plug the gaps of last term.

The signs so far suggest O'Connell will fit right in with the Blades, and he could be a presence for years to come if things go well.

CB - Matt Kilgallon

Matthew Kilgallon

Despite Chris Wilder bringing in both James Wilson and Jake Wright, there is a sense that another central defender is needed at the club.

Old favourite Kilgallon has been touted for a move to the Lane following his release from Blackburn, and he would be an excellent signing no doubt.

Questions will be asked about Kilgallons motives if he does sign, but if his head is on just playing football and helping the Blades out of League One, then he could well be a top performer.

LB  - Chris Hussey

The signing from Bury should be making the left back spot his own, with both Jay McEveley and Bob Harris moved out of the club in the window, and youngster Graham Kelly with little experience.

Hussey will add another dimension to Blades attacks down the left, and his ability on dead ball situations could prove pivotal.

If Hussey can fit straight in with the Blades squad and settle early, fans should enjoy seeing him marauding down the left hand side.

RM - Che Adams

There are big rumours on social media that Che Adams could well be on his way, and manager Chris Wilder has also confirmed a bid was turned down this week for him.

However, if the Blades keep hold of him, he could be excellent down the right hand side for the Blades, taking a step back from his usual up front position.

Adams has pace and power in abundance, so if he stays, Wilder will be delighted to have a player with such talent at his disposal.

CM - John Fleck

flecky

Arguably the best signing so far made by Wilder, Fleck should slot seamlessly into the middle of the park for the Blades.

Chris Wilder has already said he wants Fleck to get forward a bit more, and come out of his shell a bit more with the ball at his feet.

If he does this, then he should be an excellent acquisition for the club going into the new season.

CM - Chris Basham

With United bringing in Fleck, who isn't exactly the biggest, Bashams presence and energy levels could be ideal in the middle this season.

Basham will give 100% every game and will work his socks off for the cause, something Wilder is keen to instill in his squad.

With youngsters Louis Reed and Ben Whiteman waiting in the wings, Basham will be keen to nail down a regular place in the middle of the park.

LM - Mark Duffy

duffy123

Another excellent piece of business by Wilder was bringing in last seasons Player of the Year for promotion winning Burton, Mark Duffy.

Duffy is a bag of tricks down the wing and should be able to create an abundance of chances for the United front-line.

If Duffy isn't overawed by the pressure of playing at Bramall Lane, he should prove to be a shrewd acquisition by the club.

FWD - Billy Sharp

sharp00

Last seasons top goalscorer will 100% be Wilder's main man this season, and if he can improve on his goals tally from last season even further, then United will not be far away come May.

Sharp has been made captain by Wilder and should revel in the opportunity of leading his boyhood team.

The former Leeds and Southampton man will be hoping he can get the squad galvanised and get the togetherness back among the group after last seasons failings.

FWD - Matt Done

doneeeeeeeeee

In one of the strangest tactical moves in football, manager Nigel Adkins moved Matt Done to left wing back last season. It didn't work, and made Done look a fool at times.

However, Wilder will be playing Done in his preferred position of up front, and Done will be confident of getting among the goals alongside Billy Sharp.

Done is a class act in League One, and a good run in the team should see him hit 10/15 goals with ease. Blades fans know Done is good enough, they now just need to see it on a weekly basis.

Sheffield United fans, what do we think? Will this be a good 11? Who would you start? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
