Cardiff City have really stepped up their game in recent weeks under the influence of new additions and a highly motivated manager in Neil Warnock to inject some morale into the squad.

The Bluebirds have picked up seven points out of a possible nine and that has seen them rapidly rise out of the bottom three.

They picked up a credible three points away to Nottingham Forest last weekend that really indicates how far they have come over the past month.

They face a Wigan Athletic side at the weekend who are without a win in October, but have picked up three draws in their last four games.

The Bluebirds will be looking to continue their momentum at the weekend and take advantage of Wigan’s depleted form.

With Cardiff City at home, and the fans starting to get behind their team, they should comfortably see off the Latics and could move up to a mid-table position, if other results go their way.

Football League World writer, Ashley Williams identifies the Cardiff City XI that will demolish Wigan on Saturday..

GK – Ben Amos

The man on loan from Bolton Wanderers has firmly established himself as the club’s number one shot-stopper.

Although he wasn’t really tested against Forest, he is growing in confidence in every single game and his communication with his defence has been faultless. He has certainly proved his critics wrong when he was first brought to South Wales.

RB – Lee Peltier

The full-back looks right at home under Neil Warnock. The pair have a good understanding after working with each other at Leeds United.

Although he does not offer much going forward, he is an astute defender that hardly puts a foot wrong. After being dropped against Forest, I expect Peltier to come back into the squad.

CB – Sol Bamba

Cardiff have a real gem at the club with Bamba, and his free transfer could be one of the bargains of the year.

After a spectacular debut against Bristol City, Bamba has maintained that standard in his three games for the club after keeping Vellios and Assombalonga quiet against Forest.

CB – Sean Morrison

Morrison also seems to be growing in confidence and ability alongside Bamba.

A few weeks ago, Morrison looked like a bag of nerves with Matt Connolly.

He looked strong and assured against Forest and is never afraid to get his head on the ball.

LB – Joe Bennett

With further game time, the free signing of Bennett could be another excellent coup for the club.

He rarely gets taken on by an opposition winger and his presence certainly bolsters the back four.

He and Junior Hoilett will be looking to build a good understanding and will both look to start attacking more in the coming games.

CM – Peter Whittingham

Peter Whittingham's sumptuous and seemingly effortless strike against Sheffield Wednesday was a reminder of how one wave of his left foot wand can be the difference in this league.

There was also evidence in the Forest game that Warnock seems to have got more out of him in a physical and defensive sense thus far after he was not afraid to put in tackles and his body language seemed a lot more positive.

CM – Aron Gunnarsson

He is a player any team in this division would be blessed to have in their ranks, a real leader and very tidy in possession.

Gunnarsson has been one of the stars of Warnock's early revival, again a force of nature in midfield against Forest.

Warnock is encouraging him to stick to the basics and play his energetic game, and it's reaping dividends.

CM – Joe Ralls

joe ralls

Ralls has allayed early season fears over his form a little in the three matches under Warnock with big physical performances.

He was a big part of Cardiff’s win last weekend - cutting out any attack that Forest threatened with. He will learn alot under the managerial ability of Warnock and I expect him to shine against Wigan on Saturday.

RAM – Craig Noone

craig-noonecraig-noone

We are slowly starting to see the best out of Craig Noone.

Warnock has shown a lot of faith in Noone so far and he won a crucial penalty in the Severnside derby, but for many the perception remains that there is more in his locker than we have seen so far last season.

ST – Anthony Pilkington

anthony-pilkingtonanthony-pilkingtond

Pilkington is expected to start ahead of Lambert, who picked up a nasty shin injury in the Forest clash.

With Chamakh still lacking fitness, Cardiff have no other option to put the former Norwich City man up front.

Although he certainly needs to sharpen up his finishing after missing probably the easiest chance he will get all season against Forest.

LAM – Junior Hoilett

junior-hoilettjunior-hoilettjunior-hoilettdsaa

With every game, Hoilett is getting fitter and fitter, and imminently he will start to produce for the Bluebirds.

Although his best asset is his pace and making exciting mazy runs, we have witnessed that he does like to help out his left back Joe Bennett, which is good to see. Hoilett could be the difference to whether Cardiff pick up another three points at the weekend.
