Leeds United will once again go into the campaign off the back of what was a season of mixed performances and emotions for supporters.

Another new manager will oversee proceedings after Garry Monk took over the reigns following the sacking of Steve Evans, and the faithful at Elland Road will be hoping for a good season with at least a top half finish.

Leeds are constantly linked with decent names in the market, and it will be no surprise to see them lining up on the opening day of the season with a squad containing new players.

Garry Monk will hope to use his Premier League knowledge and sell his ideas as a young manager to any potential purchases, and Leeds fans can expect to see a better 11 next season.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor gives his opinion on how Leeds could line up on the opening day of the season, in a 4-2-3-1 formation...

GK - Marco Silvestri

Marco Silvestri

The Leeds keeper should really keep his place in the sticks for the opening game, after impressing in the main over the course of last season.

Silvestri is solid enough and an excellent shot stopper to boot, so it would be an odd move if Monk was to replace him.

If Leeds want to be solid at the back next season, then keeping a good goalkeeper like Silvestri could be key to proceedings. The fans at Elland Road will be hopeful he can pick up his best form from last season once more.

RB - Gaetano Berardi

Gaetano Berardi

The Italian was one of the success stories of last season as he made 28 appearances and impressed in the main.

The 27-year-old will be hoping he can keep his spot at right back for the opening day and will be keen to impress Monk over pre-season to ensure he does just that.

If Berardi can once again perform to a high level like many know he can, he should be able to have an excellent season as Leeds' first choice right full back.

CB - Alex Baptiste

The Middlesbrough defender only returned from injury last season during a loan spell with Sheffield United, and showed enough about him to show why Boro parted with a seven figure sum for him.

Baptiste was the stand out defender for both Bolton and Blackpool during his spells their, but with Boro in the Premier League, might well see opportunities cut short now.

He would be an excellent signing for Leeds to either replace or play alongside Sol Bamba.

CB - Sol Bamba

bambaaam

The big Ivorian is an excellent defender at Championship level after impressing for Leicester a few seasons ago, and will be keen to rediscover that form at Elland Road next season.

In Bamba, Leeds have a defender who is ready made for the Championship, and next to Baptiste he could excel.

Bamba stayed at Leeds in January despite a host of interest, and it will be interesting to see if he manages to remain during the summer transfer window.

LB - Charlie Taylor

Another one off the Leeds youth conveyor belt, Charlie Taylor had an excellent campaign at left back and will be keen to continue into next season under Garry Monk.

Taylor was voted the Yorkshire Posts player of the year last season, after signing a new three-year deal in 2014, a shrew bit of business by owner Massimo Cellino.

Taylor will be hoping to kick on next term and cement his place as one of the leagues stand out performers.

CDM - Toumani Diagouraga

The big midfielder was signed in January from Brentford by former manager Steve Evans and looks to have enough about him to become a regular for the whites next season.

Big and strong and a commanding presence in the middle of the park, Diagouraga should be able to dominate the midfield for them next season, allowing some of the younger more skillful players license to roam.

CDM - Leon Britton

Garry Monk will no doubt try to utilise some of his Swansea City contacts, and one name who springs to mind is Leon Britton.

Britton is a superb footballer capable of knitting a game together with his neat passing, something which would supplement Diagouraga perfectly.

It might be a long shot, but Britton is not always first choice for the Swans, and a move to Leeds could well be something which materialises if Monk fancies taking a punt on him.

AML - Kemar Roofe

Roofe

The Oxford man has been linked through various sources with a move to Elland Road, following a season which saw him break the 20 goal mark and help the U's to promotion.

Roofe is a real talent, and although he is out wide left in this formation, he would have license to roam and cut in to create and score goals for fun.

If Leeds can sign Roofe, then it would be a definite signal of intent from Cellino and the new manager.

AMR - Seb Larsson

larsson

The Swedish international is currently at Sunderland but has been touted on social media as someone who Leeds could well be looking to sign.

Versatile and experienced, Larsson could do a fine job down the right for Leeds, and offers a serious threat from dead balls too.

Larsson would be a shrewd acquisition, as a player who has enough ability to play in the Premier League, he could well be the added bit of quality they need at Elland Road to mount a play off push.

CAM - Lewis Cook

It is hard to pick a team for the opening day without the impressive Lewis Cook.

Cook might be being linked with nearly every club in the land, but I think he will stay at Leeds and develop further, meaning a role linking midfield and attack could suit him down to the ground.

He really is a top talent, and if Leeds can go into the 6th of August with Cook in the line up, they will have already made a good start to the season.

FWD - Marcus Antonsson

The new signing is bound t0 start on the opening day of the season following his move from Kalmar for £2m.

The top scorer last season for his club, the 25-year-old will no doubt be expected to spearhead an attack which at times last season didn't quite offer enough in terms of a goal threat.

With Chris Wood on the bench, Antonsson wil be keen to impress and get among the goals early in 206/17.
