A Scott Arfield strike in the first minute of the game was the deciding goal as league leaders secured a narrow victory over Leeds United in the early kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

The game presented the Clarets the opportunity to put some pressure on second-placed Middlesbrough, as they prepared for 3pm kick-off at home to Preston.

Steve Evans' side had some great chances to get an equaliser, with striker Chris Wood missing two golden opportunities to give Leeds at least a point from Turf Moor.

The result leaves Burnley retain their places at the summit of the Championship while Leeds sit 15th, just eleven points above the drop zone,  although at this stage of the season relegation is not likely.

Here are THREE things we learned from the game:

1) Burnley back to winning ways

Before the victory over Leeds, Burnley went three games without a victory with performances also not to the standards that they have set in recent months.

And while the performance on Saturday was not magnificent, the Clarets' ground out a result against a Leeds side that, had they had more confidence, might have come away with at least a point.

Its impossible for a team to win promotion playing to their full potential in every game, so it bodes well for Burnley that they can win while not at their best.

2) Chris Wood lacking a bit of confidence

Leeds' £3m summer signing is the clubs joint top goal scorer with nine this season, but he has struggled with injuries since the turn of the year and his display on Saturday showed a lack of confidence.

The two opportunities that the New Zealand international had were golden and when you are playing at a ground like Turf Moor, those chances have to be taken.

A goal would do Wood the world of good and despite his lack of confidence at the minute, he will a key player for the club for the rest of this season and next.

3) Burnley don't need to rely on their strikers for goals

Scott Arfield's goal was the deciding factor in this game, his eighth of the season, and it shows that Andre Gray and Sam Vokes are not the only attacking outlets in the side.

The Scotland-born Canadian international has been terrific this season and his contribution in the final third has been a big part of their success this season.

The fact that he, among others, can pop up with a goal shows that their are goals throughout this Burnley team, despite Gray and Vokes scoring 34 between them this season.
