Sheffield Wednesday entertain Ipswich Town at Hillsborough today, knowing that a win can more or less secure a play-off spot for them.

They are five points clear of nearest challengers Cardiff City, so a victory today could take them eight points clear of the Bluebirds with only four left to play.

For Ipswich, they have seen their season come to a bit of a halt after a run of poor results, and they are now eight points away from the top six.

Manager Mick McCarthy though has done a good job overall, and the same can be said for today's counterpart Carlos Carvalhal at Wednesday, who has the chance to get the Owls back in the Premier League for the first time since 1999/2000.

In a meeting of the blue and white teams today, FootballLeagueWorld writer Lee Connor identifies THREE things to look out for during today's game...

1) Ipswich must win or it's game over

The Tractor Boys know that three points are needed today if they are to have any hope of making the last play-off spot.

Defeat today would leave them 11 points off the Owls in sixth, and surely put an end to any faint hopes they have of making the end of season shoot out.

McCarthy will know full well he needs to get his team up for the game if they are to win, as the Owls have been extremely good at home this term.

2) Owls to bounce back

The Owls suffered a shock 4-1 defeat to Lee Johnson's Bristol City team last time out, the first time all season they have been the subject of such a heavy defeat.

Carvalhal was clearly unhappy with his team, berating them on the field after the game as the players applauded the travelling contingent.

The Portuguese manager will be looking for his team to bounce back today and secure the sixth spot.

3) Ipswich enjoy playing the Owls

The Tractor Boys are undefeated in six games against the Owls, including winning three of the last four.

A 2-1 win at Portman Road earlier in the season put paid to the Owls, and manager McCarthy would take the same result today no doubt.

Over the course of history, it is very even between the clubs, but recent history would suggest it is in the Tractor Boys favour today. Only time will tell, but it will certainly be an interesting game down at Hillsborough today.
