Sheffield Wednesday have achieved their highest finish since relegation from the Premier League in 2000, and a win on Saturday in the play-off final will put them there.

They will face Hull City, who, until late in the season, were right on the pace with the leaders.

It will be a challenge, but will take great confidence from their convincing win over Brighton, both attacking wise from their first leg victory and defensively from the way they saw out the tie at the Amex.

Their defensive record is only bettered by the top five, and their forward line has more goals than Middlesbrough.

The likes of Barry Bannan and Gary Hooper have been excellent for this Wednesday side, alongside Kieran Lee and Tom Lees, who have both had excellent play-off campaigns.

So, here, in the opinion of FLW's Ryan Evans, are THREE Sheffield Wednesday players who deserve to be playing top-flight football....

Fernando Forestieri

Fernando Forestierimm

After struggling to nail down a position in many Italian sides and an indifferent spell at Watford, Forestieri has finally found home in this Owls side.

Probably Carlos Carvalhal's most useful player, Forestieri, so far, has 15 goals and six assists to his name.

He was in many people's running for the league's player of the season vote, and if he doesn't make it to the Premier League this summer with Wednesday, the club might find it hard to fend off interest in the 26-year-old.

The 18-time Irish international has been pivotal for the Owls, playing in 36 games, and has more than earned his place in Martin O'Neill's provisional European Championship squad.

After extended spells at Carlisle and Coventry, before an unsuccessful move to Sunderland, his move to Sheffield Wednesday in 2014 was seen as a chance to once more show his critics what he can do, and he could thrust himself onto the continental stage if he is given a chance in France this summer.

Glenn Loovens

The talisman of this team, skipper Loovens has had a phenomenal season. With more than 60 appearances with Cardiff, he is experienced at this level, and knows what it takes to compete.

After moving north of the border to Celtic, he spent one season at Zaragoza, before signing for Wednesday in December 2013.

He is a master at ground duels, as there aren't too many times where you will see an opponent get past him. At 32-years of age, he will still have plenty of football left in his system, but may feel that to get to the top flight in his best form, this will have to be the season in which he achieves it.
