For Sheffield United fans, this is a season to write off.

Despite mounting half a late charge for the play-off positions, it seems to be too much too late, and frankly, if they did sneak 6th, it could be argued it would be very fortunate.

On too many occasions this season the performances have been sub standard and not been good enough to warrant taking the three points out of games.

A big part of this erratic form and inconsistencies is down to certain players either not performing, or doing something to let the club down at some point during the season.

Nigel Adkins will be hoping he can shuffle his pack in the summer and potentially dispose of some of these players, as he looks to reshape his squad going into the 2016/17 campaign.

Taking all this into account throughout the season, here THREE players FLW's Lee Connor believes have let the Blades down this season...

Dean Hammond

The midfielder arrived on loan from Leicester City in October, but to say his contribution and overall performances have been poor would be an understatement.

While some will argue he is an experienced head and the team misses his presence when he isn't involved, for me, he has been a huge disappointment in the main.

Hammond has contributed little in terms of creativity and goals, and has looked slow and laboured in possession most of the time.

Whether it is just simply age catching up with him, or Hammond is simply not at a level he once was, something is awry with the Leicester man and despite Adkins insistence that he loves what Hammond brings to the team, many fans would be annoyed at the thought of him signing on a permanent deal come the summer.

Jose Baxter

Jose Baxtermc

Despite being one of the biggest talents in the United squad, there is no doubting Baxter has let the club down this season.

After seeing the club fight his corner over one misuse of substances, and ultimately finding his way back into the team, Baxter was then caught red handed again with a second failed drugs test.

It was a bitter blow to Adkins and the club, as well as the fans who had supported Baxter previously. It cannot be denied that he has let the team down to a huge extent, and he is fully expected to be released in the summer, when the full scale of any ban he gets will have come to light.

James Wallace

James Wallace

He might be a bit of a forgotten man, and it can be argued that it might not be his fault, but Wallace has been a let down since day one.

He signed from Tranmere with high expectations but also known past injuries, something which was obviously overlooked by coaches and scouts at the time.

In 2 seasons he has started less than 20 games for the club, and stayed on this term despite knowing his injuries would be getting the better of him.

It might seem controversial to blame someone's injuries, but for me, there comes a time when personal and professional pride should come to the fore, and has simply been picking up his wages at the Lane.

A loan spell with Shrewsbury has failed to yield any sort of success either, where he has again been injured and failed to deliver on the field.
