News broke earlier this week that Massimo Cellino had sold 50% of his shares in Leeds United to Italian businessman, Andrea Radrizzani.

The news was received warmly by the clubs fans, as it appears Cellino’s controversial reign at the club could be coming to an end- with rumours circulating he will sell his remaining 50% at the end of the season.

The Elland Road side are currently fifth in the Sky Bet Championship table, and this recent news will surely help the clubs surge up the league.

Here, FLW writer Alfie Burns takes a look at THREE reasons why Radrizzani’s investment is such good timing for Leeds...

Cellino’s looming ban

It was announced in early December that Massimo Cellino would be facing an 18-month ban, for breaching Football Association agent rules.

The Italian’s ban is due to start in February and it was vital he left the club in the hands of somebody he trusted.

His last ban during the 2014/15 season left the club disorganised, with players and management unaware of when they were to report back for pre-season. Radrizzani’s 50% takeover means when Cellino has to step aside, the club will still have somebody to make the key decisions.

Stability

Cellino has been looking for investment in the club for some time, and has admitted he is tired of English football.

Speaking on the day of his takeover Radrizzani told the clubs website: “I am making a long-term commitment to Leeds United and will work to bring stability through ongoing investment. I aim to bring sustainable growth. I won't do anything that will put the Club's future at risk.”

Leeds’ new co-owner indicates he will be around for the long-term and later went on to publicly support head coach Garry Monk, praising the job he has done this season.

Fans will be hoping there will be some stability in the manager’s dugout along with the boardroom.

Investment

Radrizzani is a businessman who is clearly here to invest in his new club, this January could be the perfect time for him to do that.

The Yorkshire club are flying in the league and look like real promotion contenders, although investment will be needed this transfer window if the cub are to continue their impressive form.

Permanent contracts for Pablo Hernandez and Pontus Jansson are the priority, but Leeds are in desperate need for striking options to support top scorer Chris Wood.

Investment from Radrizzani at this stage of the season could see the club return to the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
