Reading are having a tough time in the league at the moment, with two successive poor seasons in lower midtable.

After getting of to a flying start last season, during which they hit the heights of second place, before disruption and disarray after Steve Clarke went to Fulham to discuss becoming their manager, despite being several places below Reading in the table.

The club were already in a rut at the time, but hit rock bottom despite Clarke's decision to stay, and he was sacked by the club three games later, to be replaced by Brian McDermott.

McDermott won a handful of games during his second tenure in Berkshire, and was given the chop after the season's end, to be replaced with Jaap Stam.

There is undoubtedly some quality laced in this Reading side, whom Stam needs to get the best out of  if Reading want to enjoy a good season next year.

The Royals bought in the Dutchman this summer from Dordrecht on a free transfer, utilising their connections from Holland in Brian Tevreden, who worked with the defender during his time as a youngster at Ajax.

He generally played in central defence during his time in Holland, but while on trial was supposedly most impressive whilst playing in defensive midfield.

He's a strong, powerful player who could certainly demonstrate his ability on the Championship stage with Reading,, and someone who you should be looking out for.

Deniss Rakels

Little was known of the tricky young forward when he joined Reading last January, in a move from Polish side Cracovia, scoring 26 goals in three seasons before he switched over to Reading.

He made 12 appearances in the league, nicking three goals for the club, where his game time was limited at first, but formed a strong affiliation with the fans during his first six months at the club.

He's a tough forward to deal with and could end up scoring a bundle next year. Watch out for him.

A man surrounded by speculation at the moment, with Aston Villa, Norwich, Crystal Palace and West Brom all keeping tabs on the 21-year-old, who impressed during the times he did appear for Reading last season.

Unfortunately he suffered two pretty serious injuries during the season that sparred him from keeping up his excellent start of the season form.

He's now a big player for Reading and if they can hold onto him over the coming months it would be a major boost for the squad over the summer.
