Another poor season for the Royals, summed up in their last five matches, losing four and drawing one.

In a season that started with so much hope, it quickly evaporated along with the manager and standout player Nick Blackman.

Having been a Premier League club in the recent past, Reading fans know what is needed and what it takes in order to return to the promised land.

Brian McDermott, now manager, has already once led Reading to the Premier League. Question marks remain whether he has the potential to do this again.

From once having two prolific strikers in Kevin Doyle and Dave Kitson, the Reading faithful have had to put up with disappointing purchases and a lack of confidence throughout the team.

Next season it is crucial that Reading get their summer spending right, otherwise it has all the pointers to another dismal season.

Matej Vydra

Having signed on deadline day from Watford, this was a signing that all Reading fans were excited about.

Having paid a hefty sum for the loan deal, much was expected and having seen his recent goal scoring record for Watford, I'm sure this deal struck fear into many other Championship clubs.

He never really got going. Matej Vydra has scored just three league goals for Reading this season. He also has a habit of missing penalties for the Royals this season. For a striker of his quality it has been a poor return.

If Vydra was to stay, the manager would have to come up with a plan to get his confidence back up.

Never have I seen such a deflated player, come the end of a season.

Unfortunately I don't think there is a future for him at Reading.

Danny Williams

Danny WilliamsDanny Williams

This next one may surprise a few Royals and Championship fans.

For his own standards, Danny Williams has had a poor season.

Arriving from Hoffenheim a few years back, he has cemented his place in the Reading team.

However, the depth of Reading's squad this season has seen players such as Aaron Tshibola, Stephen Quinn, George Evans and Oliver Norwood all fight for the central midfield places.

For all of Danny's hard work, his first touch is noticeably poor and at times he can look vulnerable defensively as well as not adding to anything going forward.

He is a fan favourite, but over the course of the season, fans have become more frustrated with his performances.

Danny, himself, I'm sure has been disappointed with the season as a whole and this was evident as he 'headbutted' or 'collided' with Paul McShane in Reading's recent defeat Middlesborough.

If he is to stay and keep up his popularity, he needs to win the fans back with performances.

Lucas Piazon

Lucas Piazonm

When I saw that Lucas Piazon had made the move on loan to Reading I was gobsmacked. I thought that this could be a signing that could take the whole division by surprise.

However, Piazon couldn't adapt at all. He showed moments of brilliance but very rarely. Overall he was a poor loanee and not one that any Royal would be eager to return anytime soon.

What is most frustrating about Piazon, is that the potential is there and in the warm up, the Reading fans are treated to all sorts of impressive skills but when it comes to the 90 minutes many of us often forget that he is playing.

With Piazon already returning to Chelsea, this shows that not all loanees from top clubs will be able to hack it in the Championship - he had an opportunity to prove himself and make himself stand out in a lower decision but failed to capitalise.
