Leeds United have found their form under Garry Monk this season and the Peacocks are showing that they have the ability to finally earn a long-awaited return to the Premier League, where they've been absent for the past 12 years.

Things appear different this year compared to the years gone by and, whilst it's not the first promotion push the Yorkshire giants have had since their relegation, Leeds are looking more like contenders than they ever have.

Leeds beat Steve Bruce's Aston Villa 2-0 at Elland Road yesterday, a result which moved them up to fourth in the Sky Bet Championship, two points behind Reading in third, and seven behind Brighton in second.

The work is not done yet for Monk's side though, especially with the wealth of competition in the second tier of English football, and the January transfer window will be crucial as a result, giving Leeds the chance to sign new faces to push the club closer to the top-flight.

Top class players are at a premium in modern football but there's plenty of players in the Premier League that need more football, so here FootballLeagueWorld writer Josh Challies identifies THREE players who'd be great signings for Leeds...

Lewis Cook

After leaving Leeds for Bournemouth in the summer, things haven't quite worked out for Lewis Cook.

An injury problem has cost him playing time in the Premier League and, since his arrival on the South Coast, there's been a new addition in the form of Jack Wilshere.

Upon his return from injury, Cook should return to the Championship to find his feet and form again, especially as midfield opportunities will be limited whilst Wilshere is there.

At Leeds, Cook would return to familiar surroundings and could be a crucial part of Monk's side.

Patrick Bamford

After excelling on loan at Middlesbrough a few years ago, Patrick Bamford hasn't got a sniff at Chelsea.

Three subsequent loan spells with Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Burnley, the latter being this term, have not brought better fortune, and the striker now needs a permanent move.

Leeds, a haven for young players, would be the perfect club for Bamford to settle down into becoming a first team player and, having shone for Middlesbrough previously, he could become one of the best strikers outside of the Premier League.

Leon Britton

Leeds are always proud to have youngsters from their academy shining in the first team, and that trend has continued under Monk.

In a promotion chase though, experience is crucial and Leon Britton could significantly improve the Peacocks' midfield.

Spending the majority of his career with Swansea, the 34-year-old is a legend with the Welsh side but needs more playing opportunities.

They're unlikely to come in the Premier League, but a move to the Championship would certainly be beneficial.
