Carlos Carvalhal's Sheffield Wednesday have recently picked up speed in the their Championship campaign, winning four out of five league games in September.

It couldn't really get much worse for the Hillsborough side, managing to accumulate just one win in the opening month of the season, which came on opening day against Aston Villa, which then led to the Owls drawing twice and losing twice.

But the Yorkshire club have recently demonstrated their real quality, which saw some them come agonisingly close to promotion via the playoff route last term.

Wednesday have recruited well in the summer, with the signing of Adam Reach from Middlesbrough, plus Almen Abdi and Steven Fletcher joining from Watford and Sunderland respectively, to name a few.

However here, in order to cement the Owls' successes this campaign, FLW writer George Harbey identifies THREE players that the Hillsborough faithful should look to say farewell to in January...

Atdhe Nuhiu

The 28-year-old Austrian striker is one of those players that Owls fans just can't hate, despite his dire form in front of goal.

Since signing from Rapid Wien in 2013, Nuhiu has scored 19 times in 127 games for Wednesday, and has inevitably fell down the pecking order, behind the likes of Fernando Forestieri, Gary Hooper, and Steven Fletcher.

Letting go of Nuhiu would free up a lot of wage budget, which would be beneficial for the Owls when bolstering their front line in January if needs be, in order to cement their promotion push.

Lucas Joao (Loan)

Another fan favourite, but yet another forward who has really failed to cut it at Hillsborough.

The 6 foot 3 Angolan born forward has netted 6 times in 40 games for the Owls, since Carlos Carvalhal brought him to the club last term, from Portuguese club Nacional.

He's a player that brings the same sort of attributes as Nuhiu does to the side, however with the presence and power of Steven Fletcher in front of the 23-year-old in the pecking order, maybe it is time for Wednesday to let Joao depart on loan.

Marco Matias (Loan)

Injuries cut the Portuguese winger's season short last time around, where he made a total of 18 appearances, and netted 3 times.

It would be unfair to say that the 27-year-old has failed to make an impact at the Yorkshire club, however with the signing of Adam Reach playing week in week out for Carvalhal's men, at 27 years of age, maybe it is time for Matias to start considering a move elsewhere, in order to salvage the last of his playing career - perhaps on a loan deal.

He too signed from Nacional last term, of where he scored 17 times in 33 games for the Portuguese club.

So......What do you think Wednesday fans? Do you think Wednesday should let these three players go? Who else would you like to see depart Hillsborough? Leave your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below!
