Birmingham had an excellent season of progression under Gary Rowett last season, finishing just short of the play-offs, despite spending very little and fans will expect further progress next season.

The one thing they struggled with last season was goals, due to an over reliance on Clayton Donaldson who top scored with 11 goals.

He had no strike partner with loan striker Kyle Lafferty blighted with injury and Brock Madsen not quite up to scratch.

But the midfield was fairly productive with Arsenal loanee Jon Toral the pick of them, scoring eight goals and exciting fans with his exuberant attacking play.

The defence was a lot better under Rowett with Michael Morrison solid at the back, but his partner for next season is unknown with Ryan Shotton and Paul Robinson both vying for a starting place.

Caddis was outstanding at right back proving ever passionate and one of the best defenders in the Championship.

Birmingham need to add goals and flair next season if they are to go up, so here are THREE players they should cherry pick from Arsenal.....

Yaya Sanogo

The young French striker has started for Arsenal in some big games, and scored in a Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund. but other than that has failed to impress.

He didn't get much of a chance when on loan at Ajax, but got some games at Championship Charlton last season, scoring a hat trick against Reading in a 4-3 defeat.

He is also in good form for France at U21 level and has showed an increasing adapted ability at English football, and regular football at Birmingham will help him.

Birmingham need some more options up front after Clayton Donaldson's dry spell last season hurt the side's play-off chances.

Kyrstian Bielik

Birmingham lack a bit of steel in midfield but Rowett spent wisely last summer to strengthen the position.

Maikel Kieftenbeld had a number of excellent performances showing ability going forward and defending, and has solidified his starting position for next season.

David Davis struggled with injury and is a much more defensive player, and Birmingham may feel they need a stronger player and more depth.

Bielik could be the answer with the young Polish holding midfielder impressing the coaches at Arsenal and has been highly touted since his move from Legia Warsaw.

He played against Sheffield Wednesday in the cup last season and was one of the few players not too disgrace themselves.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide

Another player that can add depth to the midfield is Frenchman Jeff Reine - Adelaide who is also highly rated at Arsenal.

Since moving from Lens he has not had a chance for Arsenal in the league but impressed in the 2 FA Cup games he played.

He is a regular for France at youth level but  unlikely to breakthrough for Arsenal next season, his progress can continue with regular football at a high level and Birmingham are lacking depth in the midfield.

He's very fast and has good ball control and could be one to watch next season if he signs for Birmingham.
