With Roberto Di Matteo at the helm, there is a great deal of optimism flowing around Villa Park ahead of the Sky Bet Championship season.

They endured a frankly dismal campaign last term. The Villains only won three times in the 2015/16 Premier League campaign, leading to relegation from the top tier for the first time since the club reformed in 1993.

Di Matteo will look to recruit quality rather than quantity this time around, and get rid of the deadwood who showed very little passion and desire last term in Villa's demise.

Chelsea have possibly one of the most glowing youth systems in the world, and having led Chelsea to Champions League victory in 2012, Di Matteo will look to demonstrate his managerial expertise this term, and look to romp to promotion with the West Midlands club.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer George Harbey identifies THREE players that the Italian should bring to Villa from Stamford Bridge, in attempt to be as successful as possible this term after a gruelling campaign last time around...

Tammy Abraham

After attracting the likes of Championship rivals Bristol City, the 18-year-old would be a fantastic coup for the Villains to replace Rudy Gestede, who had a particularly lacklustre campaign last term.

The forward, who stands at 6 foot 3, would have the perfect attributes to replace Gestede, and has made 13 appearances for England at Under-19 level, netting five times.

Abraham has attracted many high profile Championship teams, having made just two senior appearances for Antonio Conte's Blues.

And having won the UEFA Youth League for two successive seasons, as well as the FA Youth Cup twice in two years too, Abraham has the potential to be very successful, and a loan move to Villa Park wouldn't be bad business at all.

Patrick Bamford

When the 22-year-old signed on at Stamford Bridge from Nottingham Forest in 2012, the striker was meant to be one of the most promising youth prospects in England.

However, after five different loan spells in five years, Bamford has failed to make the impact he would have liked to when he first signed.

Firing on all cylinders for Middlesbrough in the 2014/15 campaign, where Boro came agonisingly close to promotion, Bamford is no stranger to the harsh Championship environment, netting 17 times in 39 appearances.

But you would imagine that after two unsuccessful loan spells at Crystal Palace and Norwich City, the forward would like to seal a permanent move to kickstart his career once and for all.

A proven goalscorer at this level, Bamford would form a formidable partnership with Rudy Gestede if the Benin international were to win over the Villa Park faithful after a poor season for him last campaign.

Kenneth Omeruo

Kenneth Omeruo

The major reason for Villa's downfall last term was a lack of desire and leadership, especially demonstrated by the likes of the experienced Micah Richards and Joleon Lescott .

The Nigerian international, only 22 years of age, has had vast Championship experience, having been in the 2014/15 Middlesbrough squad that nearly gained promotion, making 33 appearances.

His physicality and defensive awareness would be essential for the Villains this term, and with his capability to play centre-half or right-back, Omeruo would be a fantastic acquisition for Di Matteo's men, especially to replace Richards.

And having made 33 appearances for the Nigerian national team, the defender would be a real coup in bolstering Villa's push for promotion.
