Rotherham United could be in search of a new manager if reports linking current boss Paul Warne to Hull City come to fruition.

Warne has done well in his time in South Yorkshire despite suffering relegation twice. He did guide Rotherham back to the second tier in 2018 but their time there was short lived.

Promotion will be on the agenda again for The Millers, so any potential new boss will be arriving with big expectations.

The 46-year-old had no prior experience before taking over as caretaker manager in November 2016 yet he galvanised a club and a squad that was on its knees after relegation from the Championship in 2017.

He turned the side into winners, and although he could not continue that last season, Warne will be remembered fondly should he move on.

Here are THREE replacements which would suit Rotherham if the Tigers do make a move for their manager...

Karl Robinson

The Oxford manager has not enjoyed a great deal of success since guiding MK Dons to the Championship in 2015.

MK Dons and Robinson suited each other really well, he could install a playing style he wanted, and eventually his passing style paid off after years of challenging for promotion.

Also, joining Rotherham would allow him to reunite with Richie Barker, whom he worked with for a spell at Milton Keynes. Robinson knows League One better than most, and although he hasn't quite got Oxford flying, he would do a good job at the New York stadium.

Gareth Ainsworth

Ainsworth has had an exceptional start to his managerial career, and he has showed no signs of slowing down.

First he saved Wycombe from relegation to non-league, before transforming them into a promotion winning side. Last season they finished 17th in League One, a remarkable finish for a club their size.

Wycombe would be very sad to see him depart, and at 46 he could offer Rotherham a good few years of service. Despite the step up in club size and the potential to manage in the Championship, Ainsworth may be unlikely to leave the Wanderers - a club he's been a part of since joining as a player in 2009.

Richie Barker

Barker; back in a permanent coaching role

The current assistant to Paul Warne is in the prime position to take on full managerial responsibilities. He has worked with Warne since he became manager and knows the squad better than anyone.

He could continue the work started by Warne and provide the continuity which players often need to succeed.

Barker has experience of managing in League One too, having won promotion with Bury in League Two before guiding them to a 14th placed finish. He also managed Crawley in League One so knows the level well, it's just a question of whether he's ready to be the main man once again.
