Reading FINALLY seem to have got it right after two years of misery, with a very strong start to the season...

The Royals are currently the most in-form team in the Championship right now after recording wins against Barnsley, Ipswich and Cardiff and sit in seventh place, well above the mid-table position that the fans were hoping for.

They've come off the back of two years of utter misery, with consecutive finishes of 19th and 17th doing nothing to impress fans.

Ahead of last year the squad went under a heavy remodel, with twelve new signings coming in and a fair amount of money spent on the reshape, which only brought the club two places upwards.

This means that I've a hell of a lot of choice when it comes to players being overhyped that never quite made it, perhaps three is too little. So, here are THREE players who seemed good signings but never got to grips with it at the Madejski....

Matej Vydra

Ohhhh... The dreaded 'V' word.

How I despair. I was, not only astonished, but thrilled that the club had signed a player of such amazing quality, whom we were clearly crying out for.

We needed a striker and we needed one who was proven in the Championship and speedy.

Vydra was both and looked like a fabulous striker in his first few games. His debut goal against Brighton was not followed by many, as we'd hoped.

Fans grew more and more frustrated with how poorly Vydra was performing and how many simple chances he spurned.

In the end it was good to see the back of him, and it'll be extremely interesting to see how he does at Derby.

Lucas Piazon

Lucas Piazonm

What an interesting player Lucas Piazon is. He's very attacking. VERY attacking, with little to no work rate, which is why I find it extremely peculiar that he's playing in midfield, even if it is at number ten or on the wing.

I'd play him as a centre forward.

It's funny because he only has end product really, he doesn't really shine in any other aspect of the game, it's amazing how far you can get as a footballer with just a finish.

Anyway, his performances for Reading were extremely poor. He was lazy, which was really frustrating considering that most of our team were. Let's hope, for his sake, that he improves at Fulham and can try and make his way into the Chelsea squad.

Royston Drenthe

Royston Drenthe

Can you imagine the scenes in Berkshire households when we learnt that former Real Madrid prodigy Royston Drenthe was on his way through the door at our small, little club in the Championship. Amazing.

How naive we were. Little did we know what we were in for. Drenthe was really quite good in the opening stages of the season, but his wage packet was huge, his behaviour was appalling and he was lazy.

For some reason, Sheffield Wednesday decided to take him on loan for half a season before his contract was cancelled and he moved out to Turkey. Good riddance to, he won't be welcome in the Oracle shopping centre any time soon...

Reading fans... Do you agree with these picks? Who else was over-hyped? Let us know in the comments below.
