In recent seasons, Nottingham Forest fans have seen their fair share of players arrive and exit through the doors of the City Ground.

Many have gone on to do very well for the club whilst others can certainly be labelled as flops.

The transfer activity at the City Ground since the arrival of owner Fawaz Al Hasawi in 2012 has been a mixed bag with names such as Britt Assombalonga and Michail Antonio pleasing the fans, whilst other signings such as Rafik Djebbour and Darius Henderson raised numerous eyebrows on Trentside, not forgetting a transfer embargo for the club in the 2015/16 season.

Nonetheless, in previous seasons, the East Midlands club have brought in many names, from other clubs and the academy, with lots of hype and promise.

Many went on to fulfil their potential such as Michail Antonio and most recently Oliver Burke, whilst others never quite made it at the City Ground.

Simon Cox

Sean O'Driscoll excited fans when he signed the forward from West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2012.

After the departure of Robert Earnshaw in the summer before, the Reds never replaced him with a 20+ goal striker and many at the City Ground backed the Republic of Ireland international to find the sort of form he possessed during his time at Swindon Town, scoring 35 goals in 62 appearances.

Cox made an impressive start to life in the East Midlands, setting up the winner on the opening day of the 2012/13 campaign followed by scoring Nottingham Forest's goal of the season when he lobbed then Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland, after a dream start soon turned into misery, however after failing to score in 26 games for club and country with fans quickly losing patience with the former Swindon man after some woeful performances.

In the summer of 2014, Cox was shipped out to Reading, finally ending a miserable spell at Forest.

Kelvin Wilson

The return of Kelvin Wilson from Celtic was regarded as a fantastic coup by the Nottingham Forest supporters.

Many fans believed he had improved even more since his departure in 2011 after hearing of his successes in Scotland, successfully containing Lionel Messi in the Hoops' famous 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League.

However, his second spell at the City Ground was a huge disappointment, failing to reach the expected heights many predicted, picking up continuous injuries which kept him out the side.

A persistent back problem kept him out of most of his first season back in the Championship and he has never looked the same to this day.

Wilson was then released at the end of the 2015/16 season after a hugely disappointing second spell at Forest and joined fellow Championship side Rotherham United.

Jamie Paterson

The tricky winger was brought in on a three-year-deal for an undisclosed fee from Walsall, and came with a lot of promise after excelling during his time with the Saddlers.

The now 24-year-old made a somewhat steady start to life at the City Ground with fans giving the youngster time to impress his new fans.

His first goals for the club came in emphatic style when he bagged three in a stunning 5-0 win against West Ham United in the third round of the F.A. Cup.

Paterson continued to get better as the season went on with his side becoming increasingly reliable on his goals as they struggled to pick up points.

However, the arrival of Michail Antonio in the following season halted his progress significantly.

Paterson quickly became a peripheral player under the new leadership of Stuart Pearce, playing only 25 times in all competitions.

In the 2015/16 season, Paterson was sent out on loan to Huddersfield Town, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Terriers.

After recently joining Bristol City for an undisclosed fee, Forest fans will be disappointed that Paterson could not fulfil his potential in the East Midlands, as he continues to look to make a name for himself, this time at Ashton Gate.
